Sikkim a hidden treasure in the map of India is witnessing chilling weather and cold wind amidst June. Sikkim is yet to welcome the summer heat. The scenario of intense heat waves and the rising temperature in various parts of India has left people with no other choice than to shut down their homes. Even the schools in the states of Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Andhra Pradesh have extended their summer vacations to give students little relief from the scorching heat this year.
When half of the Indian cities are burning in temperatures reaching almost 50 degrees Celsius while Sikkim is still witnessing rain, haze, and cold wind even at the peak of its summer.
Initially, the state of Sikkim was often mistaken to be part of China but due to the rising connectivity of people across the globe and the increase in reach of social media, it has been witnessing a rise in the number of tourists from the past couple of years.
Sikkim is covered by mountains and rivers where one can see the snow intact in higher altitudes all year round. When other states are extending their summer vacation Sikkim is extending its tourist season due to the rise in the numbers of tourists from both within and outside India.
Sikkim’s atmospheric temperature varies from 13 to 24 degrees Celsius even in peak summer. The state had never reached up to 28 degrees Celsius especially in and around its capital city Gangtok.
Adding to the fact that, India is burning from the heat wave, this time around even the state of Sikkim could not escape from the heat when it reached its highest up to 26 degrees Celsius for the first time in two decades.
Where tourists coming from cities like West Bengal and Maharashtra were oblivious to the unexpected heat in Sikkim. Sikkimese felt the temperature unbearable which only lasted for one day in the last week of May.
However, in just five days the state resumed its average temperature, the coming of rain again pulled the form back to its normalcy, and people again started walking with their jackets on.
The beautiful and peaceful state is harboring people from all realms of life to experience the chillness of winter in Summer heartedly. Though the state is landlocked and located far from sea level, one should never miss the opportunity to witness the sun rise and set over the horizon where mountains are covered by snow, illuminating its lights and giving warmth to the eyes of viewers.
Being, a less populated State of India, tourists find it hard to believe that Sikkim is part of India, as the state is filled with clear birds chirping around rather than the loud honking of vehicles. Tourists find themselves at peace living there, the big trees and mountains could shelter them for day long without any disturbance. The cleanliness around the state is another eye-burning issue to witness around the state where one can see how hygienic and cultured Sikkimese people have been living so far.
The state has no or few petty crime scenes recorded which is another plus point if one wants to wander around the state freely without the tension of being robbed or mistreated irrespective of ethnicity and gender.
The greenery around the state, as well as the “No sun day” lasting almost a week in the state, will surely mesmerize the tourists coming from states where they are witnessing double the temperature as compared to Sikkim.
Sikkim and other Northeastern states like Nagaland might prove to be the next sorted destination for tourists in the coming days due to its natural AC climate in summer. Few tourists even quoted that they had never witnessed such climate and fresh air in their states even in mid of the winter.
